For some of you, you already know the answer to this question. If so, write down the answer. Then start tapping: even though I gained weight because of X… and see how this goes. If you need help (and this is a very logical time to get some), ask for it!
If you don’t know the answer to the question as it is posed (or even if you do), see what you come up with when I ask: When did you gain weight? How old were you? What was going on then? As a coach, I am going to approach the situation very differently depending on whether you were put on diets by your mother as a small child, a pre-adolescent, or high-schooler, as well as whether there was abuse involved. Eating may have been a bribe or a reward to self for getting through the situation or an attempt to get unattractive enough to be left alone. It may have been being seriously unhappy about a move, or having a parent or grandparent dying.
When you know the trigger, or triggers, then you have a focus for tapping that is absolutely critical. Even if you are convinced that the trigger you remember is not the first one, don’t worry about that, tap with what you have. It will be enough to get the process started. (Again, don’t be afraid to get some outside help!) If you can clear one trigger, you will have done yourself a great favor, and will probably feel a great sense of accomplishment.
